Frequently asked questions

How to prepare for a sleep test at home?

Follow your normal day and sleep routine. In addition, follow the below guidelines on the day of your test:
• Avoid stimulants – No caffeine or heavy meals before bed.
• Dress comfortably – Loose pajamas, no lotions.
• Reassure them – The test is painless and done at home.
• Set up a calm space – Keep the bedroom quiet and relaxing.
• Follow device instructions – Ensure the Gabi Band is properly placed and charged.

What are hinlab devices?

hinlab provides medical-grade wearable devices. The hinscope cuff is designed for hospital monitoring for adult patient, and clinical research. The Gabi cuff is a home-based monitoring device specifically tailored for children.

How does a home sleep oximetry test work?

During the Home Sleep Test, your child will wear the Gabi sensor for a 3-night recording to track SpO₂ (oxygen levels), pulse rate, and movement. Simply follow the setup instructions to connect to Wi-Fi; data is automatically sent to our doctor for review after the third night, and you will receive your report within 2 - 3 days.

The results will include key clinical sleep metrics like ODI (Oxygen Desaturation Index) and hypoxic burden, among others.

Will insurance cover home sleep tests?

hinlab does not bill insurance directly. Coverage and reimbursement depend on your insurance provider. If you plan to submit the expense or results for reimbursement, we recommend checking with your insurer before purchasing the hinlab Home Sleep Test.

How accurate is an at-home sleep test?

Our at-home sleep test provides reliable and accurate results thanks to validated technology. Contact us for more details on our scientific research and clinical studies.

What age range is appropriate for the test?

Our sleep test is specifically designed for children from 28 days – 12 years old, covering the crucial developmental years from toddlerhood through early adolescence.

How long does the entire process take?

The hinlab sleep test is carried out in 3 nights. From order to receipt of results, the whole process usually takes less than two weeks.

How should the home sleep oximetry results be interpreted?

Your hinlab report summarizes your child’s overnight oximetry data together with information from the Sleep Questionnaire. The report is not a diagnosis and should be interpreted by a healthcare professional who can consider the findings in the context of your child’s symptoms, medical history, and overall health.

If your child’s own doctor prescribed the test, the report is sent to them for review. If a hinlab physician prescribed the test, the report is sent to you to share with your child’s doctor.

What happens after the test?

After the test: The overnight recordings and your questionnaire responses are summarized into a Sleep Report. You and your physician will receive it within 2-3 days after the test.
‍
Keep the Gabi Sensor for future monitoring. You can keep the device to perform further testing as your child grows or symptoms change. You simply pay $99 when you choose to conduct a new 3-night sleep test and generate a fresh clinical report.

hinlab's complete sleep testing service is priced at $399, with no hidden fees. It includes the Gabi Band, 3-night recording and a Sleep Questionnaire.

You can perform additional 3-night sleep tests in the future with the same device as your child grows or symptoms change for only $99 per test.

How can my child get a prescription for the Sleep Test?

Your child’s doctor can prescribe the hinlab Sleep Test, including their pediatrician, family doctor, ENT, or another physician involved in their care.
‍
If your child doesn’t already have a prescription, you can also request a review from a hinlab physician. After you complete the Sleep Questionnaire, the physician will review your child’s information within 48 hours and issue a prescription if your child is eligible.

Who can prescribe the test?

Your child’s doctor can prescribe it. That may be their pediatrician, family doctor, ENT, or another physician involved in their care. If they do not prescribe the hinlab Sleep Test, you’ll receive a full refund.

Is this a sleep apnea test?

The hinlab Sleep Test can provide information that helps your child’s doctor screen for possible sleep-disordered breathing, including concerns that may warrant further evaluation for sleep apnea. It does not diagnose sleep apnea or replace an in-lab sleep study.

Can the test help if my child is being evaluated for tonsil or adenoid surgery?

Yes. The hinlab Sleep Test can give your child’s doctor objective sleep information to consider as they evaluate next steps, including whether an ENT referral, additional testing, or surgery may be appropriate. The test does not determine whether surgery is needed; that decision is made by your child’s care team.
